Over 10,000 students attended the college each year. By 2002, the college reported a student satisfaction rate exceeding 98%. Nearly every graduate found employment within six months of graduation. In Canada, employers often prefer college graduates over university graduates due to their high-quality practical training.

The college’s popularity grew so much that there was a shortage of space for students. In October 2004, the college’s president announced a massive renovation and expansion of the North Campus to double its capacity. In the fall of 2005, the college celebrated its 40th anniversary, and the Alberta government committed to financing the first phase of campus expansion and providing land for the purpose. The second phase of funding was announced in the summer of 2008. That same year, the campus renovation was completed, including repairs to existing buildings and the construction of a new building across the street, where the Alberta provincial courts had once stood.

The North Campus

In 2005, when access to higher education became a serious issue in the province, Bow Valley College developed its first five-year academic plan. The plan aimed to significantly increase enrollment numbers. In the same year, five Calgary public universities signed a memorandum to create the Calgary Campus, improving transfer opportunities between educational institutions and thus increasing access to education.

Additionally, in October 2005, the institution launched its first-ever public fundraising campaign to improve life beyond the college with the goal of raising $10 million. In 2008, the college launched the Applied Research Office to develop its applied research potential.

In 2010, the cornerstone was laid for the future South Campus, which opened in 2013 just before the major June floods. That same year, the Iniikokaan Centre was opened for indigenous peoples. By 2014, Bow Valley College became the largest general education college in Alberta. In 2022, the Entertainment Arts Centre was opened.

Educational Features

Higher education in Canada aims to provide knowledge and skills that can be applied practically.
